After moving about a month back, I decided that I would need to get signal to my new place. Lucky for me it was only about 1km from my parents’ and los was great towards my new place.
So I modified the kit a bit, and now broadcast with a 14dbi panel towards Bellville Larochelle area.
This weekend 2 members had great success in connecting to the site, one is a brand new member and the other one just moved over from bot so pings and speed will be allot faster for him.
So if you are in that area feel free to scan and if found do the right thing and connect.

Howdie,
I am interested in setting up a wireless access point in my area and want to get connected to the CTWUG network. Took a couple of photo’s from my roof to determine possible coverage area but line of sight bit limited, gonna have to go with a high mast I suppose. Can you give me an idea of what area you are covering? Will mail photo’s if you are interested. Funding for the installation not a problem atm. Im aiming to set up a view gaming servers, file server’s etc.
I know about a wireless community in the Rosendal area on Old Oak Road, I think they use the local church there for coverage, and are mostly into WOW games, but they havent really tried to reveal their existance, dunno if you’ve heard about them?
All in all, I want to try and cover the largest area possible. Im mostly into gaming, well FPS’s, and want to try and find a cheaper alternative to online gaming.
Hey Francois, I’m covering from Brackenfell, just before the R300 bridge towards old oak. Antenna is pointing in parallel with the Frans Conradie. That “wireless community” you are talking about it UitsigLAN, and they are certainly not a wireless comunity. They are a wisp, with bad latency and speed limitations. If you are interested in CTWUG please check out our irc server. You’ll find it at the top of my page under IRC Chat. The guys are always willing to help out.
We run several gaming and FTP servers, even a bit torrent tracker. Just to give you a idea, and we are currently about 60+ users on the network.
